The hybrids between Bufo paracnemis ♂ x Bufo arenarum ♀ are counted among tbe so called "vital hybrids". Our resu1ts have revealed relevant ocular anomalies in 90% of cases. In some larvae the lens is lacking in either one or both eyes (20%); in others the lens it is found in an opposite position to normal (25%) or else one normal and one different eye is formed (20%).
Histological analysis reveals anomalies in the retinal area, observing flexuous movements in the pigmentary strata (5%). Eyes folded over themselves were also observed (5%). The most severe alterations produced cases of anophtalmia (10%). On occasions (5%), groupings of pigments were found instead of the eyes. l00% of the larvae were normal. The other organs show analogies to those of the larvae of Bufo paracnemis, including the dorsal pattem.

The cranial muscles of three argentinian species of the genus Liophis is described. They present a typical colubroid anatomy, with some interspecific variations. A new muscle of the group of Constrictores dorsalis is described in Liophis sagittifer and L. poecilogyrus. Their cranial anatomy has been compared with that of other species near Liophis, leading to the proposal that they are closely related to of Lystrophis, Xenodon and Waglerophis.

A new frog is described from the Serra do Cipó, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Pseudopaludicola falcipes (Hensel, 1867) aud P. saltica (Cope, 1887) are redescribed. P. falcipes is redescribed using topotype material. It is designated a lectotype for P. saltica. Data on the distribution and osteology of these species are presented and the results are comparisoned to another species studied previously (Lobo, in press). A key for the identification ofilie species of the genus is also provided.

In snakes there are two possible pheromonal sources: skin and cloacal glands. In this work, we tested both secretions in adults of Epicrates cenchria alvarezi as messages transmitters, trying to explain the role that plays this information in the social context of this species. Both secretions have shown to have pheromonal function. Conespecific odors elicited more tongue extrusions than other stimuli did. These results suggest that the snake is capable of discriminating conspecifics based on chemical cues alone.
