dc.description.abstract Southeasterns are a type of meteorological tides which periodically produces an increase of water level in La Plata River, whose most visible consequence is flooding in coastal areas. However, this event also affects coastal aquifers and can be considered a particular case of interaction between surface water and groundwater. In this work we present a simple theoretical model that allows to analyze the temporal pattern of a Southeastern and quantify its effect on coastal aquifers. First the time series of the water level registered during of a Southeastern event is decomposed using a Fourier series. Then, assuming a simplified model of a coastal aquifer and using the time series as a boundary condition in the flow equations, the induced meteorological tide in the aquifer is estimated as a function of the distance to the coast. The proposed method can be used to quantify the Southeastern effect and delimitate the zone affected by this type of events. en
