El sentido de la justicia en <i>Desgracia</i>

Abstract

En este trabajo exploro cómo se ha construido el sentido de la justicia en la obra literaria <i>Desgracia</i>, publicada en el año 1999 por el escritor sudafricano John Maxwell Coetzee, premio Nobel de literatura 2003. Mi propósito es hacer visibles distintos niveles de juicio dentro del texto: ético, moral y jurídico. Para ello, tendré en cuenta una perspectiva cognitivista de la justicia y de las emociones; es decir que considera al sujeto, objeto de juzgamiento, como un ser autónomamente moral, capaz de realizar juicios de valor sobre sus propios sentimientos y de tomar decisiones cruciales para la vida en sociedad.

In this paper I explore how the sense of justice has been built in <i>Disgrace</i>, the literary work published in 1999 by South African writer John Maxwell Coetzee, Nobel Prize of Literature in 2003. My purpose is to make visible different levels of judgment that take place in the text: i.e., ethical, moral and legal. To this end, I will consider the cognitive perspective of justice and emotions; the subject, an object of judgment, is regarded as an autonomous being that is capable of making value judgments about their own feelings, and of making crucial decisions for social life.
