La Odontología Legal en la educación superior latinoamericana

Abstract

En los últimos años se desarrollaron diferentes investigaciones locales y extranjeras que presentaron situaciones éticas respecto del impacto de los derechos sanitarios en la relación odontólogo-paciente. Dado el constante avance técnico y científico, no podemos pensar en la Odontología Legal como algo estático, sino como dinámico, que crece y cambia al ritmo de la sociedad. Por tanto, el profesional en odontología debe participar activamente con sus conocimientos y experiencias desde su rol en cuestiones de orden legal, de la identidad y los procesos sociales y la bioética. La Odontología Legal se compone de diferentes espacios disciplinares lo cual genera que el panorama del campo y su impacto en la formación demanda una nueva mirada ética del ejercicio profesional, y para ello, es crucial la revisión de contenidos y la construcción de los nuevos conceptos emergentes. Indagar este cambio del paradigma en las relaciones sanitarias debería influir directamente sobre la formación universitaria. La pregunta sobre cómo esta temática está o no presente en los diseños curriculares en América Latina, posibilita abrir la propuesta de investigación con el objetivo de realizar un estudio exploratorio sobre la formación en Odontología Legal en la educación superior de América Latina.

In recent years, various local and foreign research studies have been carried out that have presented ethical situations regarding the impact of health rights on the dentist-patient relationship. Given the constant technical and scientific progress, we cannot think of legal dentistry as static, but as dynamic, growing and changing at the pace of society. Therefore, the dental professional must actively participate with his or her knowledge and experience from his or her role in legal issues, identity and social processes, and bioethics. Legal dentistry is made up of different disciplinary areas, which means that the panorama of the field and its impact on training demands a new ethical view of professional practice, and for this, the revision of content and the construction of new emerging concepts is crucial. The investigation of this paradigm shift in health relations should have a direct influence on university education. The question of how this subject is or is not present in the curricular designs in Latin America makes it possible to open the research proposal with the aim of carrying out an exploratory study on training in Legal Dentistry in higher education in Latin America.
