La evolución científica de Morgenstern: La afirmación de un ser independiente

Abstract

Cuando Morgenstern parte de Viena en 1925 comienza a desarrollar un estilo de pensamiento propio, autentico, cuya quintaesencia es difícil de definir. Su inquietante preocupación sobre las elecciones de los agentes en un mundo signado por la incertidumbre y la temporalidad se combina con su interés por la formalización de aquellas y la construcción de una ciencia libre de valoraciones subjetivas. Estas cuestiones, que lo llevan a estudiar matemática y lógica, también lo conducen a su encuentro con von Neumann en 1939. Este trabajo analiza la evolución del pensamiento que el autor va forjando, el cual resulta único, singular, e imposible de enmarcar a la usanza tradicional en historia del pensamiento económico, hasta aquel encuentro en Princeton.

When Morgenstern flies into the world in 1925 begins to develop an authentic way of thinking through the affirmation of an independent self, a thought whose quintessence is difficult to define. His constant preoccupation about the agents’ choices under uncertainty and subject to temporality is combined with his concerns about the construction of a science free of subjective valuations. These questions lead him to study mathematics and logic but also to his meeting with von Neumann in 1939. This paper analyse the Morgenstern’s outlook until that meeting in Princeton, a view impossible to frame as usual in the accustomed ways in the history of economic thought.
