Apelaciones, deseos y mensajes para la eternidad: el llamado a los vivos en las estelas abideanas del Reino Medio

Abstract

El llamado a los vivos es un concepto que hace referencia a una serie de apelaciones y demandas que los difuntos solían dejar inscriptas en sus tumbas y monumentos funerarios para que los visitantes que pasasen por su cercanía pudiesen leer y recitar con la intención de perpetuar su nombre, su memoria y asegurar la provisión simbólica de ofrendas rituales. Atestiguadas desde fines del Reino Antiguo estas apelaciones a los vivos podemos encontrarlas con algunas transformaciones a lo largo de toda la historia faraónica. En este trabajo analizaremos las apelaciones a los vivos presentes en un gran número de estelas votivas que los miembros de las elites egipcias habrían erigido en Abidos en el marco de las celebraciones rituales en honor a Osiris. En efecto, a partir del análisis de las mismas, en este trabajo se intenta develar a quiénes estaban dirigidas las apelaciones a los vivos, cuáles eran sus intenciones, qué tipo de demandas solían solicitar, cuáles habrían sido los incentivos que los difuntos les habrían prometido a los visitantes que recitasen sus demandas y cómo se inscriben estas apelaciones en el contexto de las peregrinaciones anuales por las celebraciones de los Misterios de Osiris en Abidos.

The appeal to the living refers to some inscriptions left by the deceased on their graves and funerary monuments allowing any visitor to read and recite them in order to perpetuate their name, their memory and guarantee the symbolic provision of offerings. The appeal to the living has been known since the end of the Old Kingdom and can be found throughout the Pharaonic history. In this paper, we will analyse the appeals to the living found in a large number of votive stelae from Abydos. These stelae were set up in Abydos as part of the feasts of the Osiris Mysteries. Based on their analysis, this paper attempts to reveal some questions about these appeals to the living such as: Who was the addressee? What were their intentions? What kind of demands did they use to request? What kind of reward would be offered to the visitors who recite their claims? And how these appeals are registered within the context of the annual pilgrimages for the celebrations of the Osiris Mysteries in Abydos?
