Tomás de Aquino y la astrología

Abstract

La astrología fue muy importante en la antigüedad y el medioevo, pero quedó desechada luego de la revolución copernicana. Sin embargo, ha persistido bajo la práctica de los horóscopos, y por eso muchos la identifican con esa actividad y descalifican a todos los que la cultivaron o la aceptaron a lo largo del tiempo. Se trata de exponer la doctrina de Tomás de Aquino sobre este tema, considerando el contexto epistemológico en el cual lo inscribe y destacando su rechazo al determinismo del influjo astral sobre los hombres.

Astrology was very important in Antiquity and Middle Ages, but it was rejected after Copernican revolution. Nevertheless, it remains under the practice of horoscopes, and for that reason many people identify it with that activity and discredit everybody who cultivated or accepted it along the time. The aim is to expose Thomas Aquinas’ doctrine about this issue, considering the epistemological context in which it is situated, and emphasizing his rejection of determinism of the astral influence.
