El cuerpo, la imagen y la condición simbólica en la perspectiva de la Summa Theologiae de Santo Tomás de Aquino

Abstract

En esta contribución el autor nos ofrece algunas consideraciones acerca de la relación entre el cuerpo y la condición simbólica en el pensamiento de Santo Tomás de Aquino. El teólogo medieval no considera al cuerpo un obstáculo para la vida sobrenatural. Al contrario, al radicar la persona en el compuesto de materia y espíritu se hace imposible pensar la misma vida sobrenatural sin apelar a la experiencia de la sensibilidad. Por otro lado, si Dios se ha encarnado, la materia es instrumento de la luz y no solo velo y opacidad.

In this contribution, the author offers some considerations on the relationship between the body and the symbolic condition in the thought of Saint Thomas Aquinas. The medieval theologian does not consider the body an obstacle to supernatural life. On the contrary, by rooting the person in the composite of matter and spirit, it becomes impossible to conceive of supernatural life itself without appealing to the experience of sensitivity. On the other hand, if God has become incarnate, matter is an instrument of light and not just a veil and opacity.
