Since the time of the introduction of regulations for restrictions in the use of pesticides in neighboring border sectors between urban and rural areas in San José Villa, social conflicts initiated, and new perspectives were considered and taken into account in relation with the paradigm of pesticide free production. The objective of the present research is oriented to obtain the first preliminary assessment of the environmental conflicts in relation to pesticides in the environment of the area. Three sampling sites were selected in the study, taking into account different degree of agricultural influence. Water, soil and edible vegetables were sampled and analyzed for pesticides by standardized analytical methods. Vegetables did not show presence of pesticides. Drinking water samples exhibited pesticide concentrations below recommended guideline levels. Soil was the most conspicuous contaminated environmental compartment. All of the samples revealed detectable concentrations of the tested pesticides, being Glyphosate, Chlopyrifos and Cypermethrin the most important. The highest concentrations correspond to plots with most intensive production management practice. The present assessment provides the first contribution with pollution data in the area. Future studies will extend the assessment incorporating other environmental matrixes, further analysis with other potential representative pesticides, leading to know more detailed scenarios of pesticide pollution, contributing with relevant information towards the improvement of life quality.
