El plano de la ‘lectura’ en la ‘<i>Eneida</i> Ovidiana’ (MET., XIII, 623- XIV, 608): Ovidio, Virgilio y el <i>Aeneas Romanus</i>

Abstract

Al margen de la “mitologización”, cuyo fin es incluir las historias de esta larga secuencia en la trama precedente constituyendo una historia universal “mitologizada”, hay en la llamada “Eneida ovidiana” marcas textuales que sirven para mantener vigente el valor de la figura y la historia de Eneas en conformidad con la significación romana del héroe y, en especial, con la apoteosis, que da fin a la secuencia. Tales marcas constituyen lo que hemos dado en llamar el plano de la “lectura”. En este trabajo indagamos, a propósito de la “Eneida ovidiana”, las alusiones al Aeneas Romanus, construido en particular por la obra de Virgilio y al que Ovidio sigue en cuanto al significado general, más allá de ocasionales referencias a tradiciones previas no incluidas por Virgilio. Entendemos por Aeneas Romanus el que, dada la índole canónica de su Eneida, Virgilio termina de convertir en patrimonio de la cultura romana, sancionando a la vez su carácter de mito originario de una familia. Entre esas alusiones es central la designación Cythereius heros en Ringkomposition, que remeda Aen., I, 257-258 y asegura el valor virgiliano de la secuencia en el plano de la “lectura”.

Apart from the "mythologization", the purpose of which is to include the stories of this long sequence in the preceding plot by creating a "mythologized" universal history, there are in the so-called "Ovidian Aeneid" textual marks that keep Aeneas’ character and story present, in accordance with the Roman meaning of the hero and, especially, with his apotheosis, which puts an end to the sequence. Such marks constitute what we have called the level of "reading". In this paper the allusions to the Aeneas Romanus are examined in relation to the “Ovidian Aeneid”. This Aeneas Romanus is especially based on Virgil’s epic, which Ovid follows as a general meaning, even beyond occasional references to previous traditions not included by Virgil We understand by Aeneas Romanus the character who is turned by Virgil both into a legacy of the Roman culture and an original family myth, given the canonical nature of his Aeneid. Among these allusions, it has a central role the term Cythereius heros in Ringkomposition, which refers to Aen., I, 257-258 and secures the Virgilian value of the sequence in the level of "reading".
