“In vitro” culture of tissues of “Passiflora caerulea”
Revista de la Facultad de Agronomía; vol. 42, no. 1
In vitro” culture of tissues of “Passiflora caerulea”, by Fermín Nakayama. In this work the conditions required for the cultivation “in vitro” of tissues of Passiflora caerulea L., “mburucuyá”, and the behavior of the same ones before several “factors” added to the nutritive medium have been studied.
It could be determined that segments of stems from 0,5 to 1,0 cm length, taken from shoots having a vigorous growth, after desinfection in alcohol, permit to attain satisfactory results whereas, on the contrary, a great percentage of infection was found in segments taken from old stems or plants.
Fox and Miller basic medium provided the mineral needs in a more effective way than the Heller’s one.
Initial cultivations in media with 1 mg/1 of kinetin, stimulated by vitamins and inhibited by 0,1 mg/1 of indol acetic acid or 7 ml/1 of extract of fermented corn caused the formation of buds. The extract of fermented corn and kinetin favored the outgrowth of calluses and a greater activity in the presence of both was observed. The indol acetic acid favored the formation of roots. All the foregoing phenomena were intensified by the vitamins.
The subcultivation of calluses prospered in different nutritive media, some of them showing buds, roots and embrios.
The results rendered evidence of the organogenetic capacity of the tissues of “mburucuyá” and its response to the various “factors”, thus assuming the bases for prosecuting the works to elucidate the unknown of the heteroblastic determinism.

The effect of the use of frozen antigens at low dosage rates on the quality of potato virus X and Y antisera; Influence d’une basse dosse d’antigénes congelés sur la qualité des sérums antivirus X et Y de la pomme de terre
Revista de la Facultad de Agronomía; vol. 42, no. 1
This paper shows that it is possible to obtain good antisera by meanB of antigens employed in low doses and standardized by freezing.
Antisera from rabbits that had been treated with 13 injections of a preparation containing potato virus X partially purified and frozen, in 0,1 ml doses (expressed as crude sap) were compared to others obtained using 0,2 and 1,5 ml doses, in the same conditions.
Similarly, for potato virus Y, the antisera from 0,2 ml doses of an antigen prepared in the same way were compared to the ones produced by means of 0,7 and 1,72 ml. The quality of the sera was evaluated by the dilution end point method, that is the maximun dilution of the antigen in 1 ml of wich visible precipitation appears on the addition of 1 ml of the 1/32 dilution of the antiserum.
Dilution and points were 1/512 and 1/64 for virus X and Y antigens, respectively; no difference was found in the quality of sera that could be attributed to the inmunization dose.
The conclusion may be drawn that the use of frozen antigens and their application in low doses brings about a great economy of infective material and consequently of the space and labor that their production requires.

Inhibition of auxinic growth and of its interaction with gibb erelic acid
Revista de la Facultad de Agronomía; vol. 42, no. 1
It has been studied the inhibiting effect of the Maleic hydrazide (HM), the Iodoacelic acid (AYoA), the Traus-cinamic acid (TsCA), and the 2,4 Dinitrophenol (DNP) upon the growing of the segments of the petioles of Tropaeolum majus, induced by the indole acetic acid (AIA) and the interaction AIA-Gibberellic acid (AG).
The TsCA as well as the DNP inhibit the growing induced by both the AIA and the interaction AIA-AG in a similar way. The maxim inhibition is got with the firts one (TsCA) at a concentration of 600 ppm ; with the second one (DNP) at concentrations above 15 ppm.
The AYoA under low concentrations (5 and 10 ppm) inhibit the growing provoked by the interaction AIA-AG in a more powerful way than that of lhe AIA. Under 50 ppm the inhibition is, in both cases similar.
The HM iuhibit the growing of the ATA at any concentration, gettiing its maxin at 2000 ppm. At lower concentrations (100-200 ppm) it provokes a synergism with the interaction AIA-AG. As in the foregoing case the maxin inhibition occur at 2000 ppm.
It is admited that the differential inhibiting effect produced by the HM and the AYoA in the growing provoked by the AIA and by the interaction AIA-AG is due to two different mecanism ; one in which the Al A directly acts and the other in which the presence of the AIA is necessary for AG to develops its growing effect.

Incidence of the vertical positión of the egg during both prehatch and hatch period upon chick’s hatch in incubation camera with uniform temperature and forced air movement; Einfluss der senkrechten Lage des Eies wahrend der prenatajen Periodo auf die Geburt des kiikens in Brutkammern mit gleichmassiger Tempe rat ur und erzwungener Luftzirkulation; L’incldence de la position verticals de l’oeuf pendant la période de pré et éclosion sur la naissance du poussin dans des chambres d’incubatiort avec une température uniforme et un muvement d’air forcé
Revista de la Facultad de Agronomía; vol. 42, no. 1
The avicultural investigations, concerning artificial incubation, have given to this activity, the possibility of acquiring during the last decades, a character of real industry, due to the development of machines of extraordinary perfection regarding their functioning but, whose conduction have been adjusted, in general, to simple classic principles, common as well to the firts artificial incubators, performing the incubation process in a camera without forced air movement or uniform temperature in all its inside surface, as the electronic machines, more improved, that possess, in return, such conditions.
Though such classic principles, applied to the incubators included in the first group, have showed to be, apparently, the most convenient from the technical and economic point of view, the functional characteristics that have those of the second group, have brought into consideration if determined practices of common use would not need an adequate revision, and, if principles considered impossible to apply, or with negative incidence for a system, would not have, on the contrary, a significant importance for the other.
