«O Som Do Som». The Survival of the Phonogram in Julio Bressane
Arkadin; no. 14
In this text, we will analyze the peculiar practice of audiovisual montage in two works by Brazilian filmmaker Julio Bressane, both shot in Italy: Ritmo (2024) and Ver, viver, reviver (2007). Relocating, in this way, the naive idea of their neutral or appropriate use.

This book approaches the relationship between image and thought from the notion of imagomaquia, understood as the tension between the hegemonic audiovisual discourse -which imposes ways of seeing and thinking- and the forms of counter-enunciation proper to the cinema-essay, which resist the logic of cinema-capital. To Remember the Unknown. The Memories of Malvinas from an Interrupted Time
Arkadin; no. 14
Based on interviews with veterans, it weaves narrative, aesthetic, and performative choices to capture emotions ranging from youthful resolve to fear and loss. The film explores it’s character building shaped by war, the past-present duality, and the water metaphor, reflecting on cinema as a tool for collective memory and intergenerational dialogue.

Colombian Sound Cinema and Industry: A Reappraisal
Arkadin; no. 14
First Experiments in National Talking Cinema). These images celebrate the technological leap taken by national cinema as it produced and exhibited, for the first time, synchronized sound images. Nevertheless, they reveal much more than a simple celebration of technological novelty. It seems that within them, the modernizing impulse coexists with distinctly premodern idiosyncrasies. These contradictions can be summarized as follows: cinema, a typically industrial art form, arrived in Colombia—a country that was, by all accounts, premodern. From this mixture emerges a very singular cinematic history: the Colombian one. Examining these hidden yet vivid tensions within this brief filmic piece allows us to contribute to the long-standing debate over whether a Colombian film industry has ever truly existed—not only in the past but even in the present.

Image I Want You Sound: From Synesthetic Art to Psychic Cinema
Arkadin; no. 14

This article investigates the intersection between synesthesia (a neurological phenomenon of sensory crossover) and the aesthetic strategies of abstract Cinema, from the Futurist experiences of Bruno Corra to the Structural Films of James Whitney, creators who built bridges between sound and color. The Sound Between. Narrating through Listening in Argentine Cinema
Arkadin; no. 14
In both films, the voice detaches from the image and takes on a displaced, situated, and performative character. Rather than being a simple bearer of meaning, it embodies an affective and fragmentary memory that reshapes the sound space as a narrative device. Through a critical and narrative mode of listening, the article proposes a historiophony of Argentine cinema, where the voice functions as a sensitive trace with political and identity projections.

Progressive Slippages of Meaning. The Issue of Audiovisual Congruence
Arkadin; no. 14
The following lines attempt to define more precisely a concept of audio-visual analysis proposed by Michel Fano, which refers to the congruence between image and sound.
