Quality of drug advertisements in medical joumals
Acta Farmacéutica Bonaerense; vol. 18, no. 1
A constatação dessas diferenças sugere a existência por parte dos anunciantes de éticas diferenciadas, de acordo com o tipo de revista médica.; Drug advertisements in Latin American inedical journals were analyzed and wmpared with advertisements in high impact intemational medical journals according to the recommendations of the WHO ethical criteria for medicinal drug promotion. Advertisements in eight Latin American and eight intemational medical journals were analized with regard to the presence of drug naine, posology, composition, adverse drug reactions, precautions, drug interactions and bibIiographic refereiices. Were cataloged 727 different advertisements, 404 in Latin American journals and 323 in international journals. In al1 analyzed items, statistical significant differences between groups (p<0,01) were observed. When comparing advertisements of the same manufacturer in the two groups of journals, we found differences especially with regard to adverse drug reactions, precautions, drug interactions and bibliographic references. This findings suggest the existence of different ethical patterns according to journal origin.

Fitoquelatinas y péptidos relacionados: Estructura, rol metabólico y aplicaciones ambientales: Structure, metabolic rol and environmental applications

Revision
Phytochelatins and related peptides
Acta Farmacéutica Bonaerense; vol. 18, no. 1
Furthermore, plants are an adequate material for environmental studies, because they are the first step in trophic chains and have a direct, opened and limited contact with their surrounding media. From this point of view, it is very attractive their potential utilization as biomarkers of heavy metals exposure, and probably as useful tools for environmental diagnostic. As phytochelatins have a low molecular weight (up 12 kDa) and have no aromatic amino acids, their detection is usually complex and very sensitive methods have to be applied, as isotopic markers, antibodies techniques (RIE, ELISA), and spectroscopic ones, as well as UV and fluorescent methods, mass spectroscopic, NMR and atomic absorption. Purification of phytochelatuis often requires cliromatograpliic (as HPLC) and electrophoretic methods. In the present work the state of art related to the structure, metabolic rol and environmental applications of the y-EC peptides are critically reviewed, as well as methodologies applied to their isolation, detection, purification and characterization. Finally, their possible application to bioremediation strategies and biomonitoring programs is analysed.

Articulo
Isolation and partial characterization of heterophyllin, a new lectin from Artocarpus heterophyllus seeds
Acta Farmacéutica Bonaerense; vol. 18, no. 1
One of the two lectins that bound to guar gum behaved as an albumin (AII) and was identified as the well known jacalin lectin by its sugar specificity, electrophoretic mobility and N-terminal amino acid sequence. The other guar gum binding lectin (GII) had the same above properties but was distinguished by its globulin nature. An albumin lectin (AIMII) which did not bind to guar gum was isolated due to its association with agarose-D-mannose and was identified as the lectin artocarpin. A newly identified lectin was isolated from the globulin fraction through its association with chitin. Chitin binding of the lectin was competed by N-acetyl-D-glucosamine. The new lectin designated heterophyllin, with a pI value of 6,5 , contained three subunits of molecular weight 31.4,18.7 and 16.3 kDa as estimated by SDS-PAGE.

Articulo
Synthesis, characterization and evaluation of the activity of ten mesoionic compounds against microorganisms
Acta Farmacéutica Bonaerense; vol. 18, no. 1
Three mesoionic 1,3,4-thiadiazoliuin-2-thiolates and seven 1,3,4-triazolium-2-thiol chlorides have been synthesised and tested for activity against a range of microorganisms. The chemical structures were confirmed by Elemental Analysis, IK, Mass, 1H and 13C NMR spectrometry. The biological tests indicate that the compounds have substantial activity against Gram-positive and alcohol-acid-resistant bacteria; moderate activity against yeasts and little activity against other fungi and are inactive against Gram-negative bacteria.

Articulo
Half life s robust estimator of Ranitidin
Acta Farmacéutica Bonaerense; vol. 18, no. 1
The aim of the present work is to show how using the sample mean to estimate half-life of Ranitidina makes it possible to introduce biases in the pharmacokinetical studies whenever there are outliers in the sample data. The sample mean is the most efficient estimator when the distribution is normal. This means that those cases which are far from the media have less probability to appear (Gausse's distribution). It is also sensitive to slight changes in the assumptions of the model. The presence of an outlier can make it's variance increase a lot and in that case the sample mean does not represent neither the outlier nor the sample without the outlier.

18, no. 1
We present the synthesis of three Mg(II) complexes potentially useful for magnesium supplementation in human and veterinary medicine: magnesium chloro-aspartate, Mg(C4H604N)Cl.3H2O; magnesium citrate, [Mg(H2O)6][MgC6H5O7(H2O)]25.H2O, and magnesium orotate, [Mg(C5H3O4N2)2].8H2O. These compounds were characterized by IR and Raman spectroscopy and their thermal behaviour was investigated by means of thermogravimetric measurements and differential tliermal analysis, working in oxygen atmosphere.; Se presenta la síntesis de tres complejos de Mg(II) potencialmente útiles para la suplementación de este elemento en medicina humana y veterinaria: cloro-aspartato de magnesio, Mg(C4H604N)Cl.3H2O; citrato de magnesio, [Mg(H2O)6][MgC6H5O7(H2O)]25.H2O, y orotato de magnesio, [Mg(C5H3O4N2)2].8H2O.
