Articulo
Antineoplastic chemotherapy in hospitaiized patients
Acta Farmacéutica Bonaerense; vol. 12, no. 1
Chemotherapy is usually used as combined chemotherapy (polichemotherapy). The object of the present work is to study chemotherapic treatments applied to hospitaiized patients in the Municipal Oncology Hospital "María Curie" of Buenos Aires, Argentina and try to find some relationship between chemotherapic treatments and tiie different diseases. Data were obtained from the clinical history of twenty nine patients. A great diversity of chemoterapic treatments were observed and it was found schedules used in more of one disease. Treatments more usually used were those that combined chemotherapy and radiation. It was found a good correlation between the treatments employed and those found in the bibliography.

Articulo
Absolute bioavailability determination of a sustained release theophylline tablet
Acta Farmacéutica Bonaerense; vol. 12, no. 1
The absolute bioavailability of a sustained release tablet developed in our laboratory was evaluated. The formulation employs acrylic resins Eudragit as the sustaining release system and tablets were obtained using conventional technology. The study was carried out on healthy volunteers comparing the tablet performance with both intravenous and oral solution arninophylline administration. The pharmacokinetic behavior of intravenous theophylline fits well to a two compartment model; the oral solution does not exhibit a clear tendency. The sustained release tablet produces an effective delay in the release of the drug from the pharmaceutical form, obtaining lower Cmax, and higher tmax than the oral solution. Its pharmacokinetic behavior fits better to an one compartment model, due to the masking of the fast distribution phase by the absorption process. The delay does not affect the ability of the formulation to delivery practically all the dose, since the absorbed fraction was 91 ± 10.6%. Some authors have reported that aminophylline oral solutions have complete bioavailability and could be a good alternative to the intravenous administration, thus avoiding its potential risks. According to the pharmacokinetic behavior of the oral solution it does not seem possible to replace the intravenous administration for the oral solution.

Radlk.)

Articulo
Gas chromatographic analysis and pharmacodynamic action of volatile compounds of "Mataojo" (Pouteria salicifolia (Spreng.) Radlk.)
Acta Farmacéutica Bonaerense; vol. 12, no. 1
The volatile components of fresh leaves and stems of "mataojo" (Pouteria salicifolia (Spreng.) Radlk.) have been studied to contribute to their gas-chromatographic characterization. Efficiencies of the following methods of separation employed were evaluated: steam distillation and Static Headspace Analysis (HSA) at 80 +- 2ºC. A packed column of "Porapak Q", and a silica fused capillary column with methylsilicone as stationary phase were employed for the analysis by gas chromatography. The retention data corresponding to the volatile com pounds were represented by means of chromatographic profiles, which would constitute a suitable way to differentiate leaves and stems of the same vegetal. Both the residue of the bencenic extractive as the distillate obtained from leaves of Pouteria salicifolia shows a definite histaminergic action: causes eye irritation and bronchial spasm in guinea pigs, arterial hypotension in rabbits, and spasmodic action on guinea pig distal ileon, all the effects being counteracted by difenhydramine chlorhydrate
