Leather Craftsmanship in Castelló de la Plana (1385-1527)
Sociedades Precapitalistas; vol. 14
e municipal archive preserves good records, pecha tax books, inscriptions of assets from the court of justice, purchase and sale records and other documents that prove the growth of the leather industry in the 14th-16th centuries. The prosopographic study carried out from the contrast of all these sources has made it possible to identify more than a hundred artisans involved in this artisanal sector, a minority of whom managed to increase their properties with real estate, land and other assets detailed here. And what is more interesting, some of them held the most important positions in the municipal government such as the Miró, Mas and Pasqual.

<description>Articulo
"Ad terrorem aliorum et utilitatem publicam": inquisitorial courts and the punitive destruction of heretics' houses
Sociedades Precapitalistas; vol. 14
This paper looks at the destruction of houses as a method employed by inquisitorial courts, first in the Middle Ages, then during the modern age, to punish the most dangerous heretics after their conviction at the stake. After tracing the legal foundations in Roman law (Lex Quisquis, Lex Iulia Maiestatis), medieval and modern normative and jurisprudential sources are highlighted: in particular some conciliar dictates (Toulouse, Béziers), and the precepts found in inquisitorial and anti-heretical manuals and treatises. Once the theoretical framework has been described, the essay goes on to examine concrete cases, analysing a number of episodes of punitive executions carried out by Spanish (Seville, Valladolid, Madrid), Portuguese (Coimbra - Lisbon) and Roman (Faenza - Imola, Venice, San Sisto) inquisitorial courts. Overall, the analysis reveals a close link between this practice and the confiscation of the heretic's property. At the same time it is also clear that the inquisitors attempted to eternalise their convictions, cutting out any possibility of rehabilitating the public memory of the condemned.

The Legacy of African Women in the Atlantic Colonies through the Inquisitorial Papers of the Case of the Canary Islands
Sociedades Precapitalistas; vol. 14
El estudio de la Inquisición en las Islas Canarias del siglo XVI revela una compleja interacción entre colonizadores y población local. Se centra en mujeres, particularmente acusadas de brujería, evidenciando tensiones y resistencias culturales. La Inquisición enfrentó prácticas y creencias arraigadas en la población, en especial en mujeres africanas y canarias. Estas mujeres, al adaptar y preservar sus tradiciones, mostraron una resistencia activa, creando un sincretismo religioso que refleja la agencia de las comunidades colonizadas.&#13;

<description>Articulo
The Roman Inquisition at the heart of society. The employees of the ecclesiastical court between privileges, conflicts, and indiscipline (16th-18th centuries)
Sociedades Precapitalistas; vol. 14
El ensayo pretende investigar un tema hasta ahora descuidado por los historiadores, a saber, el extenso y problemático personal que sirvió a la Inquisición romana en Italia y a los tribunales de fe activos en otros lugares durante tres siglos. La metodología empleada ha sido doble, inspirándose tanto en los estudios religioso-institucionales como en los de historia social. La amplia indagación documental realizada en los archivos vaticanos e italianos ha permitido reconstruir los principales rasgos de la familia inquisitorial italiana, observar su evolución en el tiempo, su distinta geografía y la variación de las relaciones que a través de ella estableció la Iglesia pontificia con las élites culturales y políticas de Italia durante el antiguo régimen. Ello ha permitido llegar a importantes consideraciones históricas, que insisten en un fenómeno hasta ahora investigado en otros frentes, como las relaciones entre la Iglesia de la Contrarreforma y los fieles entre los siglos XVI y XVIII. El sistema de patentes permitió al ala más intransigente de la Iglesia entablar una relación de protección y connivencia con miles de notables violentos, que a cambio garantizaron apoyo intelectual, material y político a las jerarquías eclesiásticas de la península hasta el Risorgimento italiano.; This essay aims to investigate a subject hitherto neglected by historians, namely the extensive and problematic personnel that served the Roman Inquisition in Italy and the tribunals of faith operating elsewhere over three centuries. The methodology used is twofold, drawing on both religiousinstitutional and social-historical studies. The extensive documentary research carried out in the Vatican and Italian archives has made it possible to reconstruct the main features of the Italian Inquisitorial staff, to observe its evolution over time, its different geographical locations and the varying relations that the papal Church established through it with the cultural and political elites of Italy during the Ancien Régime.&#13;
This has led to important historical considerations that highlight a phenomenon that has been studied on other fronts, such as the relations between the Counter-Reformation Church and the faithful between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries. The clientelist system allowed the most intransigent wing of the Church to establish a relationship of protection and acquiescence with thousands of violent notables. They, in return, guaranteed intellectual, material, and political support to the ecclesiastical hierarchies of the peninsula until the Italian Risorgimento.

Wage workers not so free. Notes for a history of premodern wage relations
Sociedades Precapitalistas; vol. 14
The article proposes a review of the problem of premodern wage relations and its relationship with the transition from feudalism to capitalism. Observing and keeping the Law of Moses. The inquisitorial repression of the Judeoconverts of Baza during the 16th century
Sociedades Precapitalistas; vol. 14
A lo largo de estas páginas intentaremos ofrecer unas breves pinceladas acerca de la represión inquisitorial sufrida por los judeoconversos de Baza (Reino de Granada) durante el siglo XVI; mediante un análisis crítico y riguroso de todos los procesos relacionados con la observancia a la Ley de Moisés. Con la intención de poder determinar hasta qué punto la amenaza del Santo Oficio resultó un factor determinante para la supervivencia, a todos los niveles, de los descendientes de cristianos nuevos bastetanos.; Throughout these pages we will try to offer a brief brushstroke of the inquisitorial repression suffered by the Judeo-converts of Baza (Kingdom of Granada) during the 16th century, by means of a critical and rigorous analysis of all the processes related to the observance of the Law of Moses.&#13;
With the aim of determining whether the threat of the Holy Office was a determining factor in the survival, at all levels, of the descendants of the New Christians of Baza.
