Rom vulnerable neighborhood to museums. The right to art at the popular library La Carcova
Arte e Investigación; no. 28
This paper reflects on the relationship between art, aesthetic experiences, rights and museums, which are considered public spaces, in vulnerable contexts. It focuses on the Popular Library La Carcova, which has been operating since 2012 in José León Suárez, one of the most vulnerable areas of the General San Martín municipality in Buenos Aires. Specifically, the paper analyses the work carried out between 2016 and 2019 in three public museums in the Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires (CABA): the National Museum of Fine Arts (MNBA), the Benito Quinquela Martín Museum, and the Eduardo Sívori Museum of Fine Arts. Based on interviews and participant observation in the study area, we hypothesise that these aesthetic experiences constitute a right to art in this context.

Artistic views about Curutchet house. Study of Le Corbusier's work in La Plata
Arte e Investigación; no. 28
The results of the Study on the artists and works exhibited in the Curutchet House: Artistic Views about Le Corbusier’s work are shared. The aim of the research is to gather artistic views on the Curutchet House —World Heritage of Humanity— generating a documentary collection of this visual material, which allows different approaches beyond the architectural one. Strategies for archiving, research and dissemination of this lesser-known heritage are implemented. The analysis allowed the development of analytical writings, based on aesthetic and architectural issues, Le Corbusier’s to be seen through the image of contemporary artists.

Tarsila do Amaral and the tensions of Brazilian modernism. A view through the perspectives of gender and race
Arte e Investigación; no. 28
Over a hundred years after the 1922 Modern Art Week, critical revisions have challenged the hegemonic narratives that defined modernism in Brazil. Among the most prominent figures of the period, Tarsila do Amaral (1886–1973) reemerges as a symbol of its contradictions. This article explores current discussions surrounding her trajectory, with emphasis on issues of gender and race. These themes reflect, more broadly, new critical approaches to modernism. The first part examines her ambivalent inscription in the artistic canon through the contributions of Ana Paula Simioni (2022). The second part revisits analyses by Renata Felinto and Igor Simões on the representation and representativity of Black people in that period, as well as their echoes in contemporary productions.

From Rugenda's human landscape to Laso's collective protrait. Las Tapadas in 19th- century Peruvian painting
Arte e Investigación; no.28
This study examines how pictorial aesthetics in Peru transformed from costumbrista to romantic following the country’s independence in the first half of the 19th century. It looks at the work of both foreign artists, such as Juan Mauricio Rugendas and Raymond Monvoisin, and local artists, including Pancho Fierro and Francisco Laso. The image of the ‘tapadas’ is part of the nation’s new iconography, alongside biblical references such as those related to the figure of Tamar.

This is not a thesis, or is it? This an approach to expanded academic writing
Arte e Investigación; no. 28
La diferencia, se afirma, no es estética sino epistémica.; Based on academicness as a gradable textual property and a complex, holistic and relational construct (Molinari, 2022), we explore the emergence of an expanded academic writing that aims to account for research involving artistic practice. Thus, we theoretically support the inclusion of multimodal, non-linear and/or performative materialities, displays and formats, especially in the thesis genre, for the construction of knowledge that, due to their experiential and processual nature, is usually excluded from hegemonic academic writing. From this perspective, we encourage the validation of the production and communication of knowledge through experimentation with other discourses and languages traditionally not considered in more conventional academic contexts. The difference, it is argued, is not aesthetic but epistemic.
