<description>Articulo
Económica; vol. 53, no. 1-2
Se ha constatado además que la velocidad de ajuste media es de alrededor de 3 años.; The article develops for the Argentine case the model of the determination of the exchange rate known as "Purchasing Power Parity" (PPP), adopting as reference the exchange rate with the US dollar. The PPP hypothesis is analyzed utilizing annual data from 1948 through 2006. A bivariate and trivariate model of cointegration is employed, and an error correction mechanism is used in order to estimate the adjustment velocity towards PPP. Positive evidence is found favorable to cointegration and we verify the PPP hypothesis in its absolute version. Moreover, we note that the average velocity of adjustment is around 3 years.

<title>Agricultural supply response in the Argentinean economy</title>

The results of the estimation using data covering the years 1939-1984 show that there is a statistically significant long-run supply price elasticity of agricultural output of about 1.3, and that the convergence to an equilibrium state is achieved in about nine years. The estimated agricultural supply price elasticity is found to be about three times larger than previous estimates using partial equilibrium models.

<title>Estimating the returns to education in Argentina using quantile regression analysis: 1992-2002</title>

<description>Articulo
Económica; vol. 53, no. 1-2
Estos resultados tienen implicancias potenciales para la expansión de las oportunidades educativas en Argentina.; There are countless estimates of the average returns to education which looks at the effect of an additional year of schooling on the conditional mean distribution of salaries. Recent international works suggest that there are variations from the average return to education across the population. That is why in this paper we examine this possibility for the case of Argentina over a ten year period. We estimate returns to schooling at different quantiles of the conditional distribution of wages using quantile regression method. We test whether there is individual heterogeneity in returns to education and find that: over time, while males have higher returns to schooling at the higher quantile, women's returns are highest at the lowest quantile. The evidence is suggesting that while lower ability women may benefit more from schooling the reverse is true for men. Our findings have potential implications for the expansion of educational opportunities in Argentina.

<title>Income dynamics in Argentina during the 1990's: "mobiles" did change over time</title>

<description>Articulo

Si acaso, la relación entre ingreso inicial y movilidad es positiva.; Using panel data from Argentina during the 1990's, this paper concludes that, in Argentina, income 'mobiles' did change over time. Among the household variables with a structural relation with income dynamics, we find university education, protecting from income declines though not necessarily linked to upward movements, certain age ranges of the highest earner positively associated with family income losses and households in which the highest earner is a woman exhibiting larger income gains. Interestingly, once we controlled for other correlates, no clear structural relationship was found between initial economic position and subsequent income change. If any, this relationship is positive.

<title>The impact of exchange rate volatility on Brazilian manufactured exports</title>
<link>http://sedici.unlp.edu.ar:80/handle/10915/9228</link>
<description>Articulo

The purpose of this paper is to examine the relation between exchange rate volatility and the volume of exports, using Brazilian data. After establishing the existence of cointegration among the variables included in our model, we estimate the long run coefficients by means of an auto-regressive distributed lag (ARDL) model. Our results show that exchange rate volatility has significantly affected —in a negative way— Brazilian manufactured exports in the period 1986–2002.
