Return to Painting. Dialogue with Julio Paz
Armiliar; no. 2
To contribute to future historiographies I transcribe an interview that I conducted in January 1994 to the artist Julio Paz, who at that moment was visiting his sister, the graver Hilda Paz. The artist, recognized abroad, felt that his career had been truncated in the country by the censorship and persecution of the dictatorship, despite having obtained the grand prize of honor. And with the humility of a great, he was glad that I was interested in his work, which was part of my postgraduate thesis. But the interview was never published in the institute’s bulletin because its edition was suspended after ten years.

The Modelled Image. Dialogue with Antonio Pujía
Armiliar; no. 2
Al mismo tiempo, hemos revisitado, a través de su relato, una parte importante de su vida y de su carrera artística.; The dialogue with Antonio Pujía allowed us to appreciate the importance that the artist has given to the technical knowledge of the foundry to the lost wax, first embodied in his project of a Sculpture Techniques Cooperative and then through his course of modeling in wax (which he still teaches today). At the same time, we have revisited through his story an important part of his life and his artistic career.

Dangerous Movements. Aby Warburg, between Journey and Cinema
Armiliar; no. 2
This review suggests a historiographic interpretation of the book Aby Warburg and the Image in Motion (2017) by Philippe-Alain Michaud. The Spanish edition of this prophetic work offers a controversial interpretation of the Warburguian work. Starting from an original connection between the beginnings of the iconology and the first cinematographic experiences, Michaud points out how the Warburguian investigations fall into a theory about movement as a form of investigation. This review follows the steps of this hypothesis and offers a critical addendum about the role played in Warburg’s work for this peculiar journey that tries to set in motion the Art History of the nineteenth century.

A nonconforming, sacrilegious history that perverts the untouchable madonna with the boy, the girl, mother and missus, always holy, docile, compliant, subdued. A desire for a history of the art that is filthy, pornographic, degenerate; a history that goes beyond the somatic fictions administered by the cis heterosexual writing of the academic whites, that distorts them and cross-dresses them. A yearning for a hacker history of the art, a prosthetic, cyborg history that dismounts the hysterical and carnal relationship between image and power. Stimulating a queer writing of the history of the art as a way of withstanding normalization, to fight off the dogmatic academic language.

Notes on the Reception of Worringer in Latin America
Armiliar; no. 2
The present study intends to explore the reception of Wilhelm Worringer in Latin America during the 1950s taking as a starting point Marta Traba’s and Romualdo Brughetti’s writings about art. We will see how in spite of differing in their positions regarding modernism and nationalism, both authors resorted to the German art historian’s oeuvre in search of categories capable of supporting their ideas. Through these strategic appropriations, Worringerian thought saw itself revived in a context of intense debates about the place of Latin American art in the international scene.

Design and History. Reflections on Professional Training

The emergence of new approaches to the history of design in the last twenty years requires rethinking aspects of its teaching, some of which involve historiographical reflections. For this purpose, the criteria for historical periodization and the hierarchy of the topics considered relevant for the study of the subject are explored, as well as the most widespread bibliography, in which we can detect positions that have formatted the most frequent approaches of the history of design, and more recent publications that open new perspectives of study. It Was What Started Once Which Later Ceased to Be. Musical Promotion and Cultural Dependence in Latin America

In Latin America, since the 19th century, organized and/or institutionalized musical promotion has pointed to cultural dependence as a problem to be solved, although modifying the metropolitan center identified as dominating.
At the same time, these associations were characterized by the discontinuity of their tasks, a difficulty related to the previous problem. In order to fight against the delay of local musicians, associations and foundations organized festivals, concerts, conferences and higher education courses on music. Their actions are intertwined with international cultural policies and diplomacies that, around music, operate under different social models. This work analyzes the constants of the music promoting associations in Latin America.

Music and Remnants of History. Ideological Artifacts and Positivism in the History of Music
Armiliar; no. 2
Propondremos, así, la existencia de un positivismo específicamente musicológico y consideraremos, además, la posibilidad de que su hegemonía descanse en razones ideológicas antes que metodológicas.; Although in the last decades there has been a renewal of musicology, the main topics of positivism are still in the center of textbooks and curriculum of music history. This historiography has become hegemonic, showing great resistance compared to other historical disciplines. One of the usual explanations is that of a disciplinary delay: positivism has come late to an isolated musicology, concerned only in its problems. In this paper I will try an alternative explanation, appealing to the fact that this paradigm dwells in its own artifacts: in particular the work and style concepts. In this way I will propose the existence of a specifically musicological positivism, and also consider the possibility that its hegemony rests on ideological rather than methodological reasons.

The Power of the Center: Spaces and Places of the Pampa
Armiliar; no. 2
Los cuadros estudiados son Horizonte (1981) y Pampa, (1981), de Miguel Ocampo; Un potrero (ca. 1900-03), de Ángel Della Valle; Paisaje, de Enrique Policastro; La chacra (1950), de Raúl Soldi; y La tropilla (1954), de Florencio Molina Campos.; This article deals with the representation of the pampa in the work of five Argentinean painters in their relationships with the descriptions of the region by several Argentinean novelists and poets of the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries.
The analysis is based on the distinction between spaces and places and the way in which the latter are constituted from a balancing center (Arnheim, 1982). The paintings studied are the following: Miguel Ocampo’s Horizonte (1981) y Pampa, (1981), Ángel Della Valle’s Un potrero (ca. 1900-03), Enrique Policastro’s Paisaje, Raúl Soldi’s La chacra (1950), and Florencio Molina Campos’ La tropilla (1954).

Art History and Criticism. An Attemp to Alter Its Recent Changes
Armiliar; no. 2
The history of art is the history of that which can be photographed, André Malraux (1951) wrote. There has been a widespread use of photography and film as media for art history and criticism since the mid-twentieth century.
It invites us to consider how their discursive forms have been adapting to and, above all, drawn on the expressive potential of essentially (audio) visual medium. And how this has happened to the expense of traditional written form to which art history and criticism have been mainly associated since their origin in the works by Pliny the Elder, Giorgio Vasari and Denis Diderot.
