Construyendo el concepto de arte norteamericano en Sudamérica

Abstract

Este artículo analiza el papel de Grace Morley, directora del Museo de Arte Moderno de San Francisco, durante los años de la política de Buena Vecindad (1940-1943), y, en particular, su intervención en el Comité de Arte de la Oficina de Asuntos Interamericanos (OIAA) como curadora de la exhibición «La pintura contemporánea norteamericana». En este sentido, se analiza la constitución del corpus de la muestra y la perspectiva que esta especialista le dio a la política de intercambio cultural iniciada por el gobierno norteamericano.

This article analyzes the role of Grace Morley, director of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, during the years of the Good Neighbor policy (1940-1943), and in particular her intervention in the Art Committee of the Office of Inter-American Affairs (OIAA) as curator of the exhibition «Contemporary American Painting». In this sense, we analyze the constitution of the exhibition’s corpus and the perspective that this specialist gave to the cultural exchange policy initiated by the North American government.
