dc.description.abstract The monogeneans community of Percichthys trucha (Perciformes: Percichthyidae) in relation to the host life history. In the Epuyén lake, the monogenean component community of Percichthys trucha (perch) is composed by three species of the Dactylogyridae family: Cryptocephalum spiralis and C. petreum, from the cephalic lateral line, and Duplaccesorius andinus, from the gills (Figure 2). For this study, 0+ juvenile perches (less than 1 year of age), 1+ juveniles (more than 1 year of age) and adults were sampled during the summer of 2007. The species and the number of monogeneans were recorded, and the standard length of each fish was measured. From a total of 470 0+ juveniles (16-58 mm), 24% were infested with C. spiralis, 39% with C. petreum, and 5% with D. andinus. The mean intensities were 1.2, 1.8 and 1 respectively. From a total of 40 1+ juveniles and adults (120-380 mm), 5% were infected with C. petreum and 33% with D. andinus. The mean intensities were 1 and 1.7 respectively. There was a positive association between the abundance of C. spiralis and C. petreum with size of the 0+ juveniles (Figure 3) and between the abundance of D. andinus and the size of the 1+ juveniles and adults (Figure 5). Cryptocephalum petreum was the dominant species of the monogeneans community in 0+ juveniles, and D. andinus in the 1+ juveniles and adults. This finding would be associated with the spatial segregation of the perch within the lake. The positive correlation of the D. andinus abundance and the sizes of fish would be related to the type of permanent attachment and a long life cycle, allowing these parasites to accumulate throughout the life of the host. Cryptocephalum spiralis and C. petreum present transitory attachment and have shorter life cycles to be completed in 0+ juveniles in the shallow littoral of the lake Epuyen. en
