De septiembre a abril: el golpe militar de Chile y la Revolución de los claveles portuguesa bajo la mirada de La Voz de Galicia

Abstract

Este artículo examina los análisis y énfasis del periódico español La Voz de Galicia sobre el golpe militar de Chile en 1973 y la Revolución de los claveles portuguesa de abril de 1974. A través de una revisión sistemática de las ediciones correspondientes a esas coyunturas, el estudio muestra que el tema militar y el impacto de estos sucesos en el panorama internacional fueron los elementos de mayor relevancia en las páginas de este medio, aunque bajo enfoques distintos. Si en el caso de Chile, la acción de los militares fue entendida como el derrocamiento de un gobierno constitucional, con Portugal se destacó la crisis total del régimen salazarista como el contexto de fondo sobre el cual actuó el Ejército.

This article examines the analysis made and emphasis placed by the Spanish newspaper La Voz de Galicia on the 1973 military coup in Chile and the Portuguese Carnation Revolution that began in April 1974. Through a systematic review of the editions published during these two periods, the study shows that the military issue and the impact of these events on the international scene were the most relevant elements on the pages of this newspaper, though treated different. Whilst in Chile’s case, military action was understood as the overthrow of a constitutional government, in Portugal’s case it was the acute crisis of the Salazarist regime that was highlighted as the background context in which the Army acted.
