The work focuses on analyzing the richness of weeds in family farms with horticultural production, the areas where we can preserve this vegetable resource, and from comparative studies, inquiring into the potentiality of weeds to enhance agroecological production systems. The research was done in two conventionally managed and two agroecological farms. The richness of weeds in three selected sectors was registered in relation to the disposition on the field: cultivated lot, edge of cultivated lot and boundary of the whole of registered area. Differences between farms with different managements were more evident in the number of species rather than the number of families. The differences were noticeable in the cultivated lot. Higher species richness was observed in the agroecological farms. The weeds, it is an important element to bearing in mind for the comprehension of the transition process.
