Spinelli & Wirth (1993) summarized the taxonomic knowledge of the family Ceratopogonidae in Argentina. They pointed out that the genus Forcipomyia Meigen is represented by 22 species. Since then, no more species of this genus were described and/or reported for southern South America. They also stated that if a modern revision of the Forcípomyia of Argentina was done, the number of the species of this genus for the country would significantly increase.
