En inglésThe Triassic the beginning of the Mesozoic Era. It is constrained between two mass extinctions and is characterised by warm and dry widespread conditions. Nevertheless, there was an episode of global warming and a significant increase in humidity during the early Late Triassic (Carnian), known as the "Carnian Pluvial Event” (CPE). The evolution of the floras throughout the Late Triassic in Argentina has not been adequately analysed comparatively. Therefore, it has not been possible to relate the Argentinean palaeofloras to global climatic events. The Los Rastros Formation (in the Ischigualasto-Villa Unión Basin, northern Argentina) preserves a valuable paleoflora characterized by compressions and permineralizations, yet the existing fossil record demands a comprehensive review. Previous studies have incorrectly assigned older ages to the layers containing these palaeofloras because the historical fossil material had not been revised. This thesis reviews, describes, and illustrates around 884 plant remains from five prior collections held in four scientific institution repositories, adding 45 taxa for the Los Rastros Formation, reaching a richness value equal to 80, being the highest for the Triassic of Argentina. 18 new taxa are recorded and described for the Los Rastros Formation, including vegetative and reproductive structures of Equisetales, Peltaspermales, Umkomasiales, Ginkgoales, Dordrechtitales, Voltziales, Coniferales and of uncertain affinity. The first record of Balenosetum (Echinostachyales) outside South Africa is described. The record of Dordrechtites (Dordrechtitales) corresponds to the first for South America, and that of Dicroidium superbum (Umkomasiaceae) is the first for Argentina, expanding the Gondwanan distribution of these taxa. The first records of Nododendron suberosum (Equisetales), Fanerotheca (Umkomasiales) and Stachyopitys (Ginkgoales) for the basin is described, correlating the Carnian Fanerotheca exstans, and S. anthoides from the Cuyana Basin. Dicroidium pinnis-distantibus, Diplasiophyllum hughesi (Umkomasiales), Elatocladus planus (Coniferales) and Taeniopteris (incertae sedis) are described for the first time for the Los Rastros Formation. The first permineralized woods and ovulate reproductive structures of Coniferales for the unit are also described and illustrated. The records of Phoenicopsis, Desmiophyllum, and Pelourdea are discarded for both the Los Rastros Formation and the Triassic of Argentina. From the review and the reassignment of several taxa, it is clear that the Los Rastros Formation does not correspond to the CSD biozone (Middle Triassic). Its paleofloras indicate a Carnian age (Late Triassic). A biostratigraphic scheme for the Los Rastros Formation is proposed based on the stratigraphic and spatial assignment of the different fossil levels and their grouping analysis, with an arrangement in five floristic stages. Stage I coincides with sedimentary levels containing U/Pb radiometric dating of zircons at 234.5 ± 0.9 Ma. This would therefore coincide with the start of the Carnian Pluvial Event (CPE). In Stage II, a change in vegetation is observed, with a decrease in diversity presumably indicating the impact of the CPE on the vegetation. Stage III is transitional, containing floras with elements of stages II and IV. Stage IV represents the Los Rastros Formation's maximum floristic diversification, indicating the approach to an ecological climax, which is presumably due to the continuity of the CPE over time. Stage V exhibits characteristics similar to those of Stage I, indicating a new environmental change that is presumably due to the conclusion of the CPE. Stage V displays comparable features to the Stage I, indicating a new environmental change that is presumably due to the conclusion of the CPE. It is concluded that the new contributions from the floras of the Los Rastros Formation are essential to understanding biotic changes throughout the Upper Triassic in Western Gondwana.
