Extensionismo Rural en el Ecuador

Abstract

El trabajo tuvo como objetivo identificar las principales características de los extensionistas que laboran en el ámbito público nacional a través del Proyecto de Innovación de Asistencia Técnica y Extensión Rural (PIATER). La metodología utilizada fue de tipo no experimental de corte transversal, exploratorio y descriptivo. Se consideró un muestreo no probabilístico con la técnica de muestreo intencional y por conveniencia. Se encuestó a los extensionistas del proyecto PIATER a nivel nacional. La encuesta se envió de manera digital e incluyó 36 preguntas abiertas y cerradas, e indagó sobre género, edad, formación académica, distribución geográfica y áreas temáticas de intervención. Se obtuvieron 828 respuestas y se realizó un análisis estadístico descriptivo de las variables cuantitativas y cualitativas utilizando el programa SPSS v25. Dentro de los resultados se determinó que el 72,1% de los extensionistas fueron hombres, la edad promedio de 39.1 años y mayormente la profesión fue agronomía y veterinaria (72%). El área de mayor atención fue la agrícola con 73% seguida de la pecuaria considerando que los extensionistas pueden atender más de un área temática. El trabajo aporta con información clave para fortalecer los programas de extensionismo y mejorar su eficiencia en el trabajo del sector agropecuario del Ecuador.

The aim of this study was to identify the main characteristics of extension workers who carry out their work activities in the Ecuadorian national public sector through the Project for Innovation in Technical Assistance and Rural Extension (PIATER). The methodology used was non-experimental, cross-sectional, exploratory and descriptive. Non-probabilistic sampling was considered using a purposive and convenience sampling technique. PIATER project extensionists were surveyed at the national level. The survey was sent digitally and included 36 open and closed questions, and inquired about gender, age, academic background, geographical distribution and thematic areas of intervention. A total of 828 responses were obtained and a descriptive statistical analysis of the quantitative and qualitative variables was carried out using SPSS v25. The results showed that 72.1% of the extensionists were male, the average age was 39.1 years and the main profession was agronomy and veterinary science (72%). The area of greatest attention was agriculture (73%) followed by livestock, considering that extensionists can attend to more than one thematic area. The work provides key information to strengthen extension programmes and improve their efficiency in the work of the agricultural sector in Ecuador.
