This paper aims to explore the relationship between the political and judicial branches of government in Argentina with regard to the appointment of judges and magistrates. To this end, it will first examine the constitutional evolution (federal and provincial) in this area, using as reference points the 1853 Constitution and its 1994 reform, which introduced the Council of the Judiciary. It will then systematize some mechanisms by which the political branches manipulate the judiciary, distinguishing between the pre-Council and post-Council selection processes.
