This paper is devoted tu the description of smoking pipes of Tehuelches origin, collected by Francisco P. Moreno and Estanislao S. Zeballos, deposited in the Ethnography Division of the La Plata Museum.
On dealing with this interesting material, due consideration has been given to archeological data and the information supplied by early travellers and ethnographers. As smoking pipes are elements produced by diffusion, the possibility is also viewed of a double role played by their insertion both in the sacred and profane worlds.
