The article presents the challenges that companies from the five industrial sectors with the greatest representation within the Avellaneda Industrial Union faced when implementing telework in key business areas during the COVID-19 pandemic. Drawing on the “2021 Support Program for Faculty Researchers” of the Secretariat for Research and Technological and Institutional Linkages of the National University of Avellaneda in Argentina, the study examines the adaptation process experienced by these companies, as well as the limitations and benefits derived from this new form of work organization. The study sample consists of companies with no prior experience in teleworking that were unexpectedly forced to adopt this modality as a means of ensuring the survival of their productive structures. The findings show that industrial sectors associated with service provision exhibit better telework performance, although in all cases they fall short of the average according to the results of the telework efficiency index. Nevertheless, the experience proves beneficial in terms of operational restructuring within certain business areas, overcoming some of the preconceived notions previously held about this modality, and fostering a forward-looking perspective on productive and commercial growth.
