This report presents the process and preliminary results of a research project aimed at creating a timeline that chronologically documents and visualizes the formation of the collections of the Ethnography Division of the Museo de La Plata (MLP), highlighting the roles of collectors, naturalist explorers, and administrators, from its founding in 1884 through the 1960s. To this end, various sources of information were consulted in a collaborative effort that included the participation of fellows, technical staff, researchers, and anthropology students. Investigating the trajectory of the collections through the lens of their collectors allows us to access the MLP’s ethnographic heritage from a social, political, and institutional perspective. This information is essential for the museum’s administration and for the design of strategies to disseminate and provide access to its knowledge.
