Objective: To demonstrate that the use of 17% EDTAC as the final irrigant substantially improves hybrid layer formation compared to 2.5% sodium hypochlorite as the sole irrigant. Method: Initial stage: 20 single-rooted premolars were selected: groups 1 and 2, each containing 10. They were endodontically treated using distilled water as irrigant. In groups 3 and 4, 2.5% sodium hypochlorite was used as the sole irrigant, and in groups 5 and 6, 2.5% sodium hypochlorite and 17% EDTA were used as the final irrigant. A periapical radiograph was taken, and the posts were cemented using a dual self-conditioning and dual total-etch adhesive system for the control and experimental groups. Each tooth was cut in the cervical, middle, and apical thirds of the root. The samples were analyzed by SEM, which determined the possible presence of adhesion failures. Results: The samples that did not receive treatment with 2.5% sodium hypochlorite and 17% EDTAC showed more frequent adhesive failures. In groups 3 and 5, the presence of a hybrid layer was detected in the cervical third and middle of the root.
