This paper examines UX design patterns in non-custodial cryptocurrency wallets and their implications for usability, safety, and adoption. A hands-on evaluation of widely used mobile wallets (e.g., MetaMask, Trust Wallet, and Exodus) identifies recurring solutions across critical flows: Initial Setup and Seed-phrase Generation, Seed Import, Portfolio Visualization, Recipient Address, and Transaction Execution.
We identify five UX Patterns which are described using a uniform pattern template that explains each one of them in terms of what is it, when to use it, and why it works. The resulting catalog provides actionable guidance for designers and developers of multi-chain, mobile-first wallets and, suggests directions for standardization.
