Between 1865 and 1883, the Englishman Francis Galton developed his research that would lead to the emergence of eugenics. The international repercussions that these works achieved can be followed in the distant scientific community of Buenos Aires, where there was an almost immediate reception, in some cases completely transparent and, in others, concealed by a free appeal to evolutionism or Darwinism. The purpose of this work lies fundamentally in establishing a dialogical relationship between the types of diffusion of a scientific theory and the political context that favored them. In this way, the presence of eugenics is analyzed at a time of consolidation, in Argentina, of the modern and civilized nation-state, investigating how it made its way into discourses that crossed the scientific and literary planes under the persistent duality revealed by the thematization of the countryside and the city, the improvement of animals and humans, or the desired and rejected immigration.
