Prácticas funerarias y lugares de entierro en el Buenos Aires tardo-colonial: un estudio sobre la parroquia de Nuestra Señora de Montserrat

Abstract

Este artículo aborda las prácticas funerarias y de sepultura en el Buenos Aires tardo-colonial, a partir del estudio de la parroquia Montserrat, a lo largo de las últimas tres décadas del siglo XVIII. Se analizan, de acuerdo a criterios cuantitativos y cualitativos, el primer libro de difuntos de la parroquia, así como los aranceles y previsiones formulados con motivo de la creación de los nuevos curatos de la ciudad en 1769. Los datos obtenidos en términos de arancel, lugar y tipo de entierro, son contrastados con otras fuentes y con las investigaciones realizadas hasta el momento en base al estudio de testamentos.

This article deals with funerals and burial practices in late-colonial Buenos Aires. The analysis focuses on the parish of Montserrat, throughout the last three decades of the 18th century. We analyze, according to quantitative and qualitative criteria, the first burial register of the parish, as well as the diocesan “arancel” and other regulations made for the creation of the city’s newparishes in 1769.The data obtained in terms of tariff, place and type of burial are contrasted with other sources and with the investigations carried out so far, and based on the study of testaments.
