dc.description.abstract Over a period of three years, hematological measurements were made to corroborate the association between cattle hypocuprosis and anemia. Five hundred and five animals from 6 months to 5 years old were sampled. Trichloroacetic acid soluble copper was measured in plasma by atomic absorption spectrometry, (with internal quality control). Hematocrit was measured by microhematocrit, haemoglobin concentration by the cyanomethemoglobin method and mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration was calculated. No difference was found when the hematological parameters from animals showing cupremias lower than 30 ug/dl were compared against those of normocupremic animals. Evidence of anemia was not observed even though many animals showed plasma copper concentrations of less than 30 ug/dl. It may be concluded that absence of anemia in cattle with hypocupraemia could have been due to the fact that the period of hypocupraemia is too short or that the development of anemia is a later sign of hypocuprosis. en
