El gobierno del doctor José C. Crotto en la provincia de Buenos Aires: facciones partidarias y lucha por el poder

Abstract

Poco hacía pensar, luego de la enorme presión ejercida por el presidente Yrigoyen para que el doctor Crotto, hombre de su absoluta confianza, se convirtiera en gobernador de Buenos Aires, que a los pocos días del inicio de su gestión, comenzaran las desavenencias que habrían de producir una profunda brecha entre ambos y que además habría de romper al yrigoyenismo provincial. Sin duda, la decisión de Crotto de nombrar sus ministros entre su grupo de allegados y sin consultar primero a Yrigoyen, la cesantía de numerosos empleados designados por el interventor Cantilo y que fueron remplazados por allegados al gobernador, fueron los motivos de la rápida ruptura, primero dentro de las filas del radicalismo provincial y luego entre Yrigoyen y Crotto. Esa secesión partidaria y los apoyos que se fueron retirando, llevaron al gobernador Crotto a renunciar en 1921.

There was little making us to think, after a lot of pressure exercised by president Yrigoyen on Dr. Crotto — his absolutely right-hand man — to be converted into the governor of Buenos Aires, that few days after the beginning of his administration, there appeared disagreements that would have caused a deep gap between both of them and that would have also broken with the provincial Yrigoyenism. Undoubtedly, the decision of Crotto to appoint his ministers among the group of his closest people and without consulting Yrigoyen, the dismissals of several employees appointed by the interventor Cantilo and that they were replaced by those closest to the governor, were the reasons of the fast break, first, within the lines of the provincial radicalism and then between Yrigoyen and Crotto. That partisan secession and the supporters that were retiring made the governor Crotto quit in 1921.
