Comparación entre la exactitud relativa de la forcípula y de la cinta diamétrica en la determinación del DAP, el área basal y el volumen

Abstract

El estudio compara la exactitud relativa de diámetros a la altura del pecho (DAP) obtenidos a partir de mediciones hechas con calibre forestal y con cinta diamétrica. Con el calibre forestal se determinaron cuatro DAP: el correspondiente a una sola lectura, la media aritmética y media geométrica de dos diámetros cruzados, y la media aritmética de tres diámetros cruzados. A partir de estos DAP se determinaron valores de área basal y volumen a nivel de árbol, y de área basal y volumen a nivel de hectárea. El DAP obtenido como media aritmética de los dos diámetros cruzados se tomó como DAP de referencia, y su área basal y volumen como valores de referencia. Se trabajó con árboles de Nothofagus pumilio ubicados en bosques nativos de la isla grande de Tierra del Fuego (Argentina). A nivel de árbol, los valores de DAP, área basal y volumen correspondientes a las mediciones con calibre forestal mostraron diferencias inferiores al 0,5% con los correspondientes testigos; los mismos valores obtenidos a partir de la cinta mostraron diferencias entre el 3% y el 4% con el tratamiento testigo. A nivel de hectárea se repitieron los resultados, con diferencias no mayores al 0,4% para los tratamientos con calibre forestal, y entre 3% y 4% para los tratamientos con cinta. Los valores más bajos correspondieron a la media geométrica de dos diámetros cruzados y los mayores a los obtenidos a partir de la cinta. No se observaron diferencias de DAP, de área basal y de volumen, tanto a nivel de árbol como a nivel de superficie, entre los valores obtenidos con una medición con calibre y el promedio aritmético de dos diámetros cruzados.

The study compare the relative accuracy of DBH measured with caliper and diameter tape. Four diameters were measured with the caliper in each normal cross section: that corresponding to only one diameter with the beam oriented to the center of the plot, those corresponding to the arithmetic and geometric means of two diameters measured perpendicular to each other, and the arithmetic mean of three diameters. From these five DBH the basal area and the volume was calculated for each sample tree. With these values the corresponding basal area and volume density per hectare was determined. The arithmetic mean of the two diameters measured perpendicular to each other was considered as the reference DBH, and so was with the basal area and volume associated. The study was made with trees of Nothofagus pumilio growing in the native forests of Tierra del Fuego (Argentina). At the tree level, the values for DBH, basal area, and volume determined with the tree caliper showed differences lower than 0.5% against the control; the same parameters exhibit differences between 3% and 4% when compared with the diametric tape. At hectare level, the results showed the same differences being no higher than 0.4% when the caliper was used, and between 3% and 4% when determined using the tape. The lowest values were those corresponding to the geometric mean of two perpendicular diameters while the highest to those obtained out of the tape. No differences among the determination of DBH, basal area and volume obtained from a single reading using caliper and from the arithmetic average of two perpendicular diameters were observed both at tree and area level.promedio aritmético de dos diámetros cruzados.
