El <i>Fausto</i> de Estanislao del Campo: una recepción en clave fantástica

Abstract

Tempranamente, el <i>Fausto</i> (1866) de Estanislao del Campo incorpora elementos fantásticos anticipando, de esta forma, las dos fuentes de las cuales se va a nutrir inicialmente la literatura fantástica argentina decimonónica: por un lado, las creencias y supersticiones propias de la gente de la región y, por el otro, la importación del imaginario fantástico extranjero. En la primera parte de este trabajo, se estudiará el poema dentro del contexto de la literatura gauchesca y, en la segunda parte, se analizarán los artificios del fantástico detectados tanto en la emisión del relato que hace Anastasio el Pollo acerca de su visión del diablo en la ciudad como en la recepción que del mismo hace Don Laguna.

Early on, Estanislao del Campo’s <i>Faust</i> (1866) already incorporates fantastic elements anticipating the two sources from which nineteenth-century Argentine literature will nurture: first, the beliefs and superstitions of the people of the region and, secondly, the importation of fantastic foreign imagery from abroad. In the first part of this work, I will study the poem within the context of gaucho literature and, in the second one, I will analyze the artifices of the fantastic literature detected, both in the story as told by Anastasio el Pollo about his vision of the devil in the city, and in the reception of the story as heard by Don Laguna.
