De la ciudad real a la estabilización de una imagen ideal: conformación y crecimiento de la ciudad de La Plata

Abstract

En el presente artículo, se indaga en las transformaciones que se dieron a raíz de la conformación y el crecimiento urbano de la ciudad de La Plata. Al ser un caso atípico, por su proyección y planificación previa a la construcción, existe un supuesto sobre un pasaje de una ciudad ideal - el cuadrado fundacional - que, por diversas cuestiones, se fue modificando y desarticulando hasta concretarse una ciudad real. La hipótesis en la que se basa este artículo es que no hay mayores indicios de haya existido una ciudad ideal, salvo en su proyección, y que la transformación que se dio fue desde una ciudad real, que siempre superó al cuadrado fundacional, a la normalización de la imagen de una ciudad utópica. Fundada en un territorio que hasta el momento no estaba poblado, insertándose en un sistema productivo, cultural, social y político determinado, en donde la planificación de la ciudad es sólo un aspecto de su composición. Se hará un análisis de la conformación y crecimiento de la ciudad de La Plata, desde su fundación hasta la actualidad, para ver cómo ha ido mutando la ciudad a lo largo de su historia, buscando observar dos cuestiones. Por un lado, cómo fue la relación entre el casco fundacional y sus periferias y, por el otro, cómo se fueron construyendo símbolos en torno al espacio urbano desde diversas instituciones públicas.

In this article, the transformations that took place as a result of the conformation and urban growth of the city of La Plata are investigated. Being an atypical case, due to its projection and planning prior to construction, there is an assumption about a passage of an ideal city - the foundational square - which, for various reasons, was modified and dismantled until a real city was established. The hypothesis on which this article is based is that there are no major indications that the ideal city has existed, except in its projection, and that the transformation that took place was from a real city, which always exceeded the foundational square, to normalization of the image of a utopian city. Founded in a territory that until now was not populated, inserting itself into a specific productive, cultural, social and political system, where city planning is only one aspect of its composition. An analysis will be made of the conformation and growth of the city of La Plata, from its foundation to the present, to see how the city has been mutating throughout its history, seeking to observe two issues. On the one hand, how was the relationship between the founding town and its peripheries and, on the other, how symbols were built around urban space from various public institutions.
