Alcances pedagógicos del uso de métodos “mixtos” en investigación

Abstract

Este trabajo tiene como objetivo dar cuenta de los resultados parciales de una investigación realizada en torno a la noción de ciencia que poseen (con anterioridad a la cursada) y que adquieren (con posterioridad) los alumnos del Ciclo Básico Común de la Universidad de Buenos Aires (Argentina) en su paso por la materia Introducción al Pensamiento Científico (IPC). Esto supuso la construcción de un tipo de método particular para que los estudiantes y las estudiantes pudieran rever y revisitar aquellas imágenes y representaciones lingüísticas y simbólicas adquiridas por ellos mismos de manera histórico-social. Por consiguiente, se apeló al uso de métodos mixtos de recolección de datos (lingüísticos y expresivos/icónicos) a través de un cuestionario (con preguntas abiertas y cerradas) y de la realización de un dibujo libre acerca de lo que para ellos era la ciencia. De esa manera, se llegó a un doble cometido: que los estudiantes pudieran advertir por sí mismos los resultados del proceso de aprendizaje, y descubrir que los procesos de cambio no involucran exclusivamente ideas ni operaciones netamente cognitivas, ya que el carácter complejo e integrador del pensamiento opera sobre la base de estructuras diversas que responden a distintos formatos –imágenes, ideas lingüísticas y nolingüísticas, etc.– y naturalezas –sensibles, prácticas y afectivas–.

This paper aims to give an account of the partial results of a research carried out around the notion of science that the students possess (before the classes) and that they acquire (later) in his passage through the subject Introduction to Scientific Thought (IPC) of the Common Basic Cycle (CBC) of the University of Buenos Aires (UBA - Argentina). This involved the construction of a particular type of method so that students could re-see and re-visit those images and linguistic and symbolic representations acquired by them in a social-historical way. Therefore, we turn to the use of mixed data collection methods (linguistic and expressive/iconic) through a questionnaire (with open and closed questions) and the realization of a free drawing about what the scienceis for them. In this way, a double objective was reached: that they could see for themselves the results of the learning process, and to warn that the processes of change do not exclusively involve ideas or purely cognitive operations, since the complex and integrating nature of the thinking operates on the basis of diverse structures that respond to different formats –images, linguistic and non-linguistic ideas, etc.– and natures –sensitive, practical and affective.
