El personaje de Medea en "Desmesura" de Hélia Correia

Abstract

Los mitos griegos ya se consideraban, en su origen, como la reescritura de una historia, lejana y heroica, pero en líneas generales, verídica. Si tomamos como marco general los estudios de recepción, hallamos que el personaje mítico de Medea sigue presentando aspectos polisémicos que inciden notablemente en la literatura posterior. Tal es el caso de la protagonista de la obra "Desmesura. Exercício com Medeia" (2006) de Hélia Correia que vuelve sobre los pasos trazados por la heroína de Eurípides. Por un lado, la autora portuguesa enfatiza la violencia de la hechicería de esta Medea y, por ello, la presenta como un ente teratológico adscripto ineludiblemente a Hécate, además de maléfico, vengativo y justiciero. Por otro lado, agudiza la violencia del destierro y en consonancia con ello, el destierro de su lengua. Entonces, la pervivencia del personaje clásico se asume en la protagonista de Correia a partir de la acentuación de la violencia conductual frente al destierro al que podemos jerarquizar en tres dimensiones: el destierro voluntario de la patria y de la familia, ampliamente conocidos desde el mito y, en todo un sesgo autoral, el destierro involuntario de su lengua, la lengua de Colcos, un verdadero ultraje para los griegos.

The Greek myths were already considered, in their origin, as the rewriting of a distant and heroic history, but broadly, truthful. If we consider the studies of reception as a general framework, we find that the mythical character of Medea goes on presenting polysemic aspects that influence significantly on the subsequent literature. That is the case of the protagonist of the play "Desmesura. Exercício com Medeia" (2006) by Hélia Correia that retraces the steps outlined by Euripides’s heroine. On the one hand the Portuguese author emphasizes the violence of this Medea’s sorcery and, because of that, she presents her as a teratologic being inescapably attached to Hécate, apart from maleficent, vengeful and righteous. On the other hand, she exacerbates the violence of the desert and, in accordance with this, the banishment of her language. Thereafter, the prevalence of the classic character is assumed in Correia’s protagonist from the emphasis of the behavioral violence facing the desert, which we can organize in three dimensions: the voluntary exile from the homeland and the family, thoroughly known from the myth, and in an authorial bias, the involuntary banishment of her language, the language of Colchis, a true insult for the Greeks.
