Los canónigos salmantinos durante la Baja Edad Media: participación política y estrategias de acumulación

Abstract

En las últimas décadas, los medievalistas hispanos sostuvieron que los beneficios capitulares estaban ocupados por hombres de distintos perfiles sociales. Entre ellos, la participación política en las reuniones ordinarias y la explotación del patrimonio cedido a renta por el Cabildo fue también desigual. A partir del estudio de las Actas capitulares y los Estatutos antiguos de la Catedral de Salamanca, nos proponemos explorar el perfil de los canónigos con mayor participación en el Cabildo durante el último cuarto del siglo XIV, con el fin de realizar un primer acercamiento a sus estrategias de acumulación política y económica.

In the last decades, Spanish medievalists have stated that benefits from the ecclesiastical council were occupied by men with different social backgrounds. Among them, the way of participating in ordinary meetings and exploiting the council’s goods was unequal as well. From the study of the council's proceedings and statutes from Salamanca’s Cathedral, we intend to explore the profile of those canons with greater participation in the institution. By specifically focusing on the last twentyfive years of the 14th century, we aim for a first analysis of their political and economical accumulation strategies.
