Mito y literatura en el Reino Nuevo egipcio: reflexiones sobre el cuento de Los Dos Hermanos

Abstract

Los textos literarios egipcios son parte de un universo más amplio de creaciones culturales y se relacionan con ellas en diferentes modos. Uno de los cruces que resulta de mayor interés es aquél que se produce con el orden de lo mítico: la relación entre mito y literatura es una que ha generado, de hecho, diversas discusiones entre los egiptólogos. En el relato ramésida de Los Dos Hermanos, el uso de nombres con determinativos divinos para los protagonistas, evocando nombres de dioses, habilitó la consideración de la historia como basada en un mito. Esta idea resultó fortalecida por la narración de diferentes situaciones con reminiscencias de relatos míticos, como son el renacimiento de Bata, sus transformaciones y sus vínculos con la fertilidad. La participación de otros dioses en la trama también se ha interpretado en este sentido, por lo que se vuelve evidente que algo de este plano se traduce e imbrica en el texto literario. En este trabajo analizaremos las formas específicas en que el cuento de Los Dos Hermanos se vincula con lo mítico. Este análisis pretende contribuir, en última instancia, a la discusión sobre las relaciones entre literatura y mito durante el Reino Nuevo.

Egyptian literary texts are part of a wider universe of cultural inventions and they relate in different manners. Among the most interesting junctions is the one in the mythical sphere; in fact, the relationship between myth and literature has originated several discussions among Egyptologists. In the Ramesside Story of Two Brothers, the use of names with divine determinatives encouraged it being considered a myth based story. This idea has been strengthened because of the presence of situations reminiscent of mythical stories, such as the rebirth of Bata, his successive metamorphosis, his link with fertility qualities, and even the entry of other gods such as Ra-Harakhte, the Ennead and Khnum. In this paper, I will analyze the specific ways in which the mythical order imbricates into the Story of Two Brothers. It is clear that something of this order is translated into the text, and my aim is to look for the meaning and significance of this link. This study seeks to contribute to the ongoing Egyptological discussion on the relationship between literature and myth.
