Libre para no votar ¿Libre para consumir?

Abstract

En el contexto de las transformaciones culturales, políticas y económicas del capitalismo tardío y el creciente descontento con el sistema político-económico chileno que se expresa en la baja participación electoral de los jóvenes, cabe preguntarse cuáles serían las objeciones teóricas y prácticas del voto voluntario, ley promulgada por el gobierno del Presidente Sebastián Piñera y que busca “revitalizar la democracia” a partir del aumento del padrón electoral. El presente artículo, entonces, se mueve en tres directrices a través de tres preguntas: ¿Qué democracia debe revitalizarse? ¿Cuál es la libertad invocada para revitalizar qué democracia? ¿Qué peligro se avizora ante su promulgación? Sin tentar conclusiones que cierren el problema señalado, se argumenta en torno a la potencialidad catastrófica que supone el voto voluntario en Chile, así como la defensa del voto obligatorio. En definitiva, en concordancia con la operatoria analítica de Claude Lefort, se defiende el derecho a sufragio como potencialidad política dentro del entramado institucional.

In the context of the cultural, political and economic of late capitalism and the growing discontent with the Chilean political-economic system that is expressed in the low turnout of young people, one wonders what would be the theoretical and practical objections of voluntary voting, law enacted by the government of President Sebastian Pinera and seeks "revitalize democracy" from increased voter. This article then moves on three guidelines through three questions: ¿What should revitalize democracy? ¿What is freedom invoked to revitalize what democracy? What danger is looming before approval? No conclusions tempted to close the problem identified, the argument about the catastrophic potential posed voluntary voting in Chile, as well as the defense of compulsory voting. In short, according to the operative analytical Claude Lefort, defends the right to vote as the political potential within the institutional framework.
