Tour historiográfico sobre la categoría de lo pintoresco

Abstract

Lo pintoresco es un concepto de origen italiano que se refiere al punto de vista utilizado por el pintor y que se elaboró como teoría en Inglaterra entre 1730 y 1830. Esta categoría designa una forma de mirar el paisaje siguiendo los criterios extraídos de una obra pictórica. La aplicación de determinadas reglas artísticas sobre la naturaleza pondrá de manifiesto la necesidad de mirar corrigiendo, mirar del modo adecuado para perfeccionar el lienzo paisajístico. Existe en el periodo mencionado un rico metadiscurso teórico y literario sobre el término que incluye desde ensayos como los del reverendo William Gilpin o los de Uvedale Price, hasta las poesías y las guías turísticas de William Wodsworth. En el presente artículo se traza un análisis del concepto en Inglaterra entre 1730 y 1830.

The concept of the picturesque refers, in its Italian origin, to the point of view assumed by the painter which is later elaborated as a theory in England between 1730 and. The picturesque becomes a way of looking at the landscape following the criteria taken from a painting. Applying artistic rules on nature will evidence the need to adapt the way of looking, the need to look appropriately to perfect the landscape canvas. In the aforementioned period, there is rich theoretical and literary metadiscourse, including essays by Rev. William Gilpin or Uvedale Price, as well as William Wordsworth’s poetry and travel guides. The present article aims to draw an analytical outline of the picturesque in England between 1730 and 1830.
