La importancia de la historia hortícola familiar en el conocimiento y manejo ecológico de la agrobiodiversidad

Abstract

Una agricultura sustentable requiere compatibilizar la conservación y el uso sostenible de la agrobiodiversidad. Ésta última, está determinada por el agricultor, según sus conocimientos, creencias y valores. Por lo tanto, la historia familiar es un factor clave en la actividad agropecuaria. Se analizó el manejo y el conocimiento sobre la agrobiodiversidad de agricultores con y sin historia familiar hortícola en el Cinturón Hortícola Platense. Se utilizó la metodología de indicadores. Los agricultores con historia familiar hortícola cuentan con un mayor conocimiento y valoración en la mayoría de los aspectos analizados de la agrobiodiversidad en comparación con aquellos sin tradición hortícola. Por otro lado, no hubo diferencias en el conocimiento y valoración de las plagas y enemigos naturales. Con los cambios tecnológicos las plagas podrían haber cambiado y su reconocimiento sería independiente de los años vinculados a la actividad hortícola.

A sustainable agriculture requires to make conservation and sustainable use of agrobiodiversity compatible. The latter is formed by the farmer, according to his knowledge, beliefs and values. Therefore, the family history is a key factor in the agricultural activity. The agrobiodiversity management and knowledge of farmers with and without family horticultural history in the Platense Hosticultural Belt were analized.The indicators methodology were used. Farmers with family horticultural history have greater knowledge and appreciation of most of the analyzed aspects of agrobiodiversity in comparison to those without horticultural tradition. On the other hand, there were no differences on the knowledge and appreciation of pests and natural enemies, These could have changed due to technological changes and their recognition would be independent of the years linked to the horticultural activity.
