Poesía, arte y naturaleza en Kathleen Raine

Abstract

Este artículo se propone esclarecer la contribución de la poeta inglesa Kathleen Raine a la lírica inglesa del siglo xx. Su extensa vida y la variedad de sus libros de poemas y de ensayos la constituyen en una referente inexcusable en el discernimiento de las relaciones entre poesía, arte y naturaleza. Imbuida del pensamiento tradicional, Raine hace de los símbolos tradicionales una piedra de toque no solo en la elaboración de sus poemas, sino en su lectura de grandes poetas, como Blake y Yeats. La pérdida de conciencia simbólica propia de los tiempos modernos merece su desconfianza hacia los estudios llamados literarios y, en general, hacia formas modernas del conocimiento. El artículo recoge las influencias decisivas que pesan en el itinerario espiritual y poético de la escritora.

This article sets out to clarify Kathleen Raine's contribution to English lyrical poetry in the twentieth century. Her long life and the variety of her books of poems and essays establish her as an unavoidable reference as regards the relationship between poetry, art and nature. Permeated by traditional thinking Raine makes traditional symbols a touching stone not only for the writing of her poems but also for her reading of great poets, such a Blake and Yeats. The loss of a symbolic consciousness in modern times arouses her diffidence towards the type of studies known as literary studies and in general, towards modern ways of knowledge. The article revisits the decisive influences that impinge upon the authoress' spiritual and poetic itinerary.
