dc.description.abstract One of the effective ways to reduce summer energy consumption in buildings is the integration of vegetation in the building envelope, in particular, the double green facades. The reason is that, in summer, plants are more energy efficient than traditional shading elements because of their lower surface temperature, that is, the leaves regulate their temperatures through evapotranspiration. The thermal modelling of a double green facade must include these biological aspects that affect the energy balance of the leaves, and it is not usually included in the available thermal simulation software. SIMEDIF software in its recent version 2.0 includes this model. Within this framework, the objective of this work is to study the efficiency of a double green facade applied to a social housing of the IPV located in the city of Salta, which is simulated for four possible orientations. The decrease of the interior temperature and that of the surface wall’ temperatures are analyzed through transient thermal simulation. The results show that, on hot summer days in Salta city, it would be possible to obtain decreases ranging between 13 and 20ºC in the surface temperature of East and West walls and between 0.3ºC and 1.5ºC in the indoor environments. en
