Entre el fotoperiodismo y la imagen aurática: Crónica y fotografía en <i>El viaje a España</i> de Roberto Arlt

Abstract

El artículo se propone indagar los vínculos que se establecen entre discurso periodístico y fotografía en las aguafuertes del viaje a España publicadas por Roberto Arlt como corresponsal viajero del diario El Mundo. Ponemos el foco aquí en las fotos que acompañan a las crónicas para analizar dos usos diferentes, complementarios y diversos, creativos e informativos del medio fotográfico. Ciertamente, si abundan los casos en los cuales el cronista construye imágenes que se acercan denodadamente al fotoperiodismo, en otras ocasiones se observan fotos auráticas y estilizadas, que se asemejan estéticamente a las imágenes características de los grandes maestros de la fotografía europea de principios del siglo XX. Se estudia entonces esta alternancia para reflexionar sobre la forma en que mira Arlt a través de las notas y, fundamentalmente, de sus instantáneas fotográficas.

This article seeks to investigate the links established between journalistic discourse and photography in the aguafuertes o f the journey to Spain, published by Roberto Arlt as a correspondent for the newspaper El Mundo. We focus here on the pictures that appear with the chronicles to analyze two different uses, which are not only complementary and diverse, but also creative and informative of the photographic medium. Certainly, even when there are plenty of instances in which the journalist builds images which are daringly close to photojournalism, on other occasions we can see auratic and stylish photos, which are esthetically similar to the images characteristic of the masters of the European photography of the 20th century. Thus, this alternation is explored to reflect on Arlt’s view through his articles and, fundamentally, his photographic shots.
