El presente artículo pretende problematizar el genocidio de Ruanda perpetrado hacia fines del siglo XX en el África Central desde una perspectiva antropológica socio-histórica, haciendo uso de diversas fuentes bibliográficas. En ese sentido, se focalizará en primer lugar en el análisis de la especificidad de las relaciones entre los tutsis y hutus construidas desde antes y durante la colonización europea. En segundo lugar, se pretende abordar las transformaciones políticas e implicancias en dichas relaciones a partir de la descolonización. Finalmente, se analizará la trasmisión construida, por parte de los medios masivos de comunicación locales y estadounidenses, de las masacres entre los hutus y tutsis acaecidas en 1994.

This article aims to problematize the Rwandan genocide perpetrated by the end of the twentieth century in Central Africa from a socio- historical anthropological perspective and using various literature sources. In that sense, it will focus primarily on the analysis of the specificity of relations between Tutsis and Hutus built before and during European colonization. Secondly, it aims to address the political transformations in these relationships and implications from decolonization. Finally, the built transmission will be analyzed by the local mass media and American media, massacres between Hutus and Tutsis that occurred in 1994.
