La tradición del manual de retórica: el caso de Casio Longino y su "Ars Rhetorica"

Abstract

La inscripción de los manuales dentro de la tradición literaria antigua, sin lugar a duda, se ha hecho dentro de la producción didáctica. Con todo, también surge la pregunta de si los manuales pueden tener la estructura de un tratado y comportar los elementos filosóficos o el tipo de argumentación que este último requiere. A continuación exploraré la cuestión valiéndome del problema de la dudosa atribución del tratado Sobre lo sublime a Casio Longino, quien es además autor de un Ars Rhetorica. Así, estudiaré si el Ars Rhetorica comporta la misma intencionalidad que el Sobre lo sublime, con el fin de dilucidar qué tipo de producción son y si hay motivos para atribuir ambos textos, desde una perspectiva filosófica, al mismo autor.

The role of manuals within the ancient literary tradition, without a doubt, has been done in the frame of didactic production. However, we can also ask whether the manuals may have the structure of a treatise and carry with the philosophical elements or the type of argumentation that the latter requires. In the following pages I will explore the question by using the problem of the dubious attribution of the treatise On the sublime to Cassius Longinus, who is also author of an Ars Rhetorica. Thus, I will study whether the Ars Rhetorica exhibits the same intentionality as the On the sublime, in order to clarify what type of production are those texts and whether there are grounds for attributing both texts, from a philosophical perspective, to the same author.
